Five College Library Requests
Place a Request
Use the "Place Request" button in Discover Advanced to...
- Request items located in one of the Five College Libraries, including the SC Annex Stacks and Five College Depository
- Recall items checked out to another user
To place a request...
- Login to Discover Advanced, and search for the item of interest.
- Click on "Place Request" in the search results or on the item record.
- To check the status of your request, login to Discover Advanced and under "My Dashboard" in the left panel, select "Requests & loans."
Who May Request
- Smith College - Current Smith students, faculty, staff and Five College fellows based at Smith
- Five College - Students, faculty and staff from Amherst College, Mt. Holyoke, Hampshire College and UMass Amherst
What Can Be Requested
- Circulating Materials - Most materials that circulate to Smith College patrons at Five College Libraries may be requested for delivery to Smith using the "Place Request" or "Place Hold" function in Discover. Five College borrowers may request items from all Smith College Libraries for delivery to their home library.
- Non-Circulating Materials - Reference and selected other materials do not circulate, and therefore cannot be requested. Some items may be borrowed in person, but not requested online.
Delivery Information
- Delivery Time - Deliveries are made Monday through Friday and requests are usually filled by the next working day. You'll receive an email notice when item(s) are available for pickup. If the item you've requested is checked out, the library system will recall the item from the other patron. This process takes up to two weeks.
- Pickup - Smith patrons may choose to pick up materials at Neilson, Hillyer or Josten Libraries. For Five-College and Annex materials, pickup at Neilson is generally quickest. You will be notified when the item is ready for pickup. Items will be held at the circulation desk for 7 days after they arrive.
