Recall Items
What are Recalls?
A recall is a request for an item that is already checked out to another borrower. You may recall an item by placing a request. You may also receive a recall notice if an item you have borrowed is requested by someone else, or needed for a course reserve.
- Adjusted due dates: Recalled items are due one week after the date the recall is placed, unless the borrower has had the item for less than the two-week minimum loan period that applies to all but short-term loans.
- The original borrower will receive an email notice informing them of the change in due date. Items must be returned by the date specified on the notice, even though the original loan may have been for a longer period. Please return a recalled item as soon as possible to any Five College library.
- The person placing the recall will receive an email notice when the item has been returned. The item will be held for them at the appropriate service desk for 7 days.
- Assistance: Most recalled items are returned within a few days. If you need the item urgently, however, contact the circulation staff to expedite the recall. (See contact information below.)
