Recall Items

If you need a library item that is checked out to another patron, you can recall it (request that it be returned) for your use.

  • Recalled items are due one week after the date the recall is placed. For recently checked out items, the original patron is allowed to keep the item for two weeks.
  • The borrower will receive an email notice informing them of the change in due date.
  • You will receive an email notice when the item has been returned. The item will be held for you at the appropriate service desk for 7 days.
  • Most recalled items are returned within a few days. If you need the item urgently, however, contact the circulation staff to expedite the recall. (See contact information below.)

How to Recall an Item

Use Place Request in Discover Advanced. For any problems, please contact the appropriate service desk (see below).

Returning Recalled Items

  • If an item is recalled from you, you must return it by the date specified on the notice. Even though the original loan may have been for a longer period, the loan period is curtailed when another borrower needs the item.
  • If possible, please return a recalled item as soon as possible to any Five College library.
  • If you have additional questions, please contact the appropriate service desk.
