Josten Performing Arts Library
Located in the Mendenhall Center, the Werner Josten Performing Arts Library curates collections, services and spaces to support in-depth research, performance and enjoyment in Music, Theatre, Dance and allied interdisciplinary areas.
Famous for its purple carpet, personal service, community focus and analog collections and technologies, Josten circulates books, music scores, playscripts, CDs, vinyl, VHS, DVDs, ukuleles and more. Its spaces enable collaboration, quiet study, private conferencing and shared solitude. Josten’s Mezzanine provides an inspiring space for study and occasional Friday 5 p.m. JostenLive! performances, as well as Music to Study By, a weekly sonic backdrop for work from 4-5 p.m., with ambient music provided by Music Department students and faculty.

Spaces, Technology, and Musical Instruments
- Soft seating is available on the 1st floor and Mezzanine.
- Large study tables are available on the 1st floor and Mezzanine.

- J133 Listening Room classroom (capacity: 8-12)
- J132 A, B, C, D listening/viewing/study rooms (capacity 1-2 people)
- J131 Rare Book Room classroom (6-8)
- External CD/DVD drives are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk
- Computer workstations
- Print, copy, and scan
- Listening table (turntables for vinyl, CD, cassette) - Mezzanine
- J131 Rare Book Room is equipped with Zoom, projection and CD/DVD playback.
- J132 A,B,C,D listening rooms are equipped with vinyl turntables, and VHS/DVD and CD viewing/listening via headphones.
- J133 classroom is equipped with Zoom, projection and CD/DVD playback.
- Electric pianos are located in J131, and J133
- Ukuleles are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk
