The Werner Josten Performing Arts Library serves the life, culture and mission of Smith College by curating collections and services in music, theatre, dance and allied interdisciplinary areas that meet the needs of students and faculty for discovery, in-depth research, performance and enjoyment.

Spaces, Technology, and Musical Instruments

  • Soft seating is available on the 1st floor and Mezzanine
  • Large study tables are available on the 1st floor and Mezzanine

The following spaces can be reserved by our students, faculty, and staff. Contact Josten Library at josinfo@smith.edu.

  • J133 Listening Room classroom (capacity: 8-15 depending on furniture placement).
  • J132 A, B, C, D listening/viewing/study rooms (capacity 1-2 people)
  • J131 Rare Book Room classroom (6-8 depending on furniture placement)

  • External CD/DVD drives are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk
  • Computer workstations
  • Print, copy, and scan
  • Listening table (turntables for vinyl, CD, cassette) - Mezzanine
  • The J131 Rare Book Room is equipped with a touchscreen, projection, Apple TV, VHS, and CD/DVD
  • The J132 A, B, C, and D Listening Rooms are equipped with turntables for vinyl, VHS, CD/DVD; listening with headphones
  • The J133 Listening Room is equipped with a touchscreen, projection, Apple TV, VHS, and CD/DVD

  • Electric pianos are located in J131, and J133
  • Ukuleles are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk
