The Friends of the Smith College Libraries is made up of hundreds of Smith alumnae and a smattering of parents, faculty and others who simply love our resources. Alumnae members represent classes from the 1940s to 2018 - eight decades of Smithies! Nearly half of our members are from New England, the rest live across the country with a strong contingent in California. We have some really long distance members too, in Africa, Europe and Asia.
If you love libraries, and want to support Smith's library resources, please join us!
Oversight of the Friends is assured by an Executive Committee which raises funds, plans events and initiates activities that directly benefit the Libraries. Each year, this committee meets with the Dean to vote on the distribution of funds raised during the academic year.
2019-2020 Executive Committee members are: Ann Alpers '84, Chair; Carrie Baldwin-SoRelle '09; Sarah Bellrichard '94, Emily S. Egan '04; Marianne Jasmine '85; Brandy King '05; Katharine Swibold '82, Sarah Trabucchi '00; Serena Williams ’81; Lynne Withey '70. Ex-officio members: Susan Fliss, Dean of Libraries; Mary Irwin, Libraries Development Officer.
The Libraries have benefited significantly from the thoughtfulness and generosity of many supporters. The exceptional quality of our library collections is due in no small part to the enduring interest and support of our Friends. Thank you!
