Faculty: Request Library Instruction

Due to COVID-19, library instruction is being offered through Zoom meetings for the remainder of the spring semester. See Library Services During COVID-19.

About the Libraries' Instruction Programs

Instruction sessions are tailored to the needs of a class or assignment and are held in classrooms in Young Library, Hillyer Art Library, and Josten Performing Arts Library, or in your regular classroom. Teaching librarians can also teach your class about citation management using Zotero.

Tips for a successful library instruction session:

  • Contact the teaching librarian, archivist, or curator at least a week in advance. The instruction calendar fills up quickly, so request early in the semester (or even before the semester begins). Consult the list of teaching librarians or teaching archivists and curators.
  • Work with the librarian, archivist, or curator to establish learning outcomes for the session.
  • Make sure students understand their research assignment and have a possible topic in mind before coming to the class.
  • Attend the session -- your presence conveys the value you place on developing strong library research skills. Your students will pick up on this.
  • Actively participate in the session (i.e. interject information, ask questions, encourage students to ask questions).
