Open Educational Resources (OER) Faculty Meeting, February 12, 2018

Open Educational Resources logo

The Libraries' Open Educational Resources (OER) project team and the Committee on the Library invite faculty to attend a panel presentation and open discussion on the use of OER in teaching on Monday, February 12, 12-1 p.m. in Campus Center 204.

The OER project seeks to increase the adoption of free to low-cost materials in courses, addressing a concern about the high cost of textbooks voiced by many students in last year's Campus Climate survey. James Lowenthal (Astronomy), Al Mosley (Philosophy), and Nat Fortune (Physics) will share their varied experiences in incorporating OER, followed by an open discussion to brainstorm ways in which faculty can be actively involved in using and creating freely accessible educational materials. Brendan O'Connell and Elisa Lanzi, who are leading the Libraries' OER team, will offer insight into ways in which we can work with the Libraries and Educational Technology Services to incorporate existing OERs into teaching, as well as develop and distribute resources created by Smith faculty.
