Paulette Peckol, Biological Sciences
Professor Paulette Peckol, Biological Sciences

Having just come out of a very humid August I could not resist reading Biological Science faculty, Paulette Peckol’s perfectly titled article: “Hot and Bothered: Introduced Generalist Marine Snail Outperforms Native Specialist under Gradual and Extreme Warming” for my installment of What am I Reading in ScholarWorks?

Peckol, along with the other authors on the paper, researched how native snail species compared to introduced generalist snails in both gradual and acute warming periods. How do our native snails hold up in a heat wave? About as well as I do which is to say, not well at all. One of the benefits of being a generalist type is flexibility. Alas, that flexibility too has its limits when it comes to climate change. Read more of this fascinating research in ScholarWorks. And best of luck to all our snail friends just trying to stay cool and collected. Enjoy!
