Students with ukuleles for loan in Josten Library

Published March 7, 2019

Josten Performing Arts Library lends about a dozen ukuleles, mostly sopranos, a tenor and several baritones, which are tuned like the last four strings of a guitar (D, G, B, E).

The ukuleles circulate in a soft case, for four weeks, renewable. To borrow, stop by the Josten Library, or call ahead to make sure there is a ukulele available.

The inauguration of the Smith Ukuleles student club and organization was a direct result of the founding of the Josten Library ukulele program. The Josten program was in turn inspired by the successful musical instrument circulation service spearheaded by our neighbors at the Forbes Library (Northampton's public library).

Are you interested in reviving the Smith Ukuleles?

“Smith Ukuleles was founded with the intention of making music accessible to anyone on campus interested in music. We work together as an organization to teach, collaborate, and learn while having a lot of fun jamming on ukulele.”
