Tell us your Smith College Libraries Story.

When I transferred to Smith in my junior year, I was apprehensive about finding support and a sense of belonging in a new environment. I serendipitously found an opening at Josten Performing Arts Library, and that initial uncertainty quickly gave way to comfort. Josten became more than just a workplace—it was a space of discovery and calm, where I could explore a vast music collection, from Mozart to Björk, while sitting on the purple rug with a cup of tea.

Working at Josten has been deeply rewarding. Beyond the day-to-day responsibilities, I’ve built meaningful connections with library staff and developed skills in organization, research support, and library systems. These experiences gave me both confidence and direction, ultimately helping me secure an internship at the University of Washington Law Library, where I continued to grow professionally.

Most importantly, my time at Smith College Libraries has shown me the vital role libraries play as inclusive, supportive spaces for learning and community. This experience has shaped my future goals by inspiring me to pursue work that centers access to knowledge and public resources, whether through libraries, public institutions, or nonprofit work.

Outside of the Libraries, what are your interests and hobbies?

Outside of the Libraries, I love anything related to film, from watching movies to working on my own film making projects. I also DJ and create mixes in my spare time, and I am a party DJ with WOZQ. In addition, I enjoy rock climbing and bouldering as a way to stay active and challenge myself.

If you could impart one piece of advice to incoming first year students, what would it be?

If I could give one piece of advice to incoming first-year students, it would be to not be afraid of stepping outside your comfort zone. Say yes to new experiences, even when they feel intimidating, and don’t worry about having everything figured out. Some of the best parts of college come from moments you didn’t plan for—so trust your path and allow yourself to enjoy it as it unfolds.
