Tell us your Smith College Libraries Story.

In my first year, my English professor collaborated with Special Collections to prepare us for incorporating archival material into our assignments. I was touched by the welcoming and non-judgmental attitudes of the Special Collections librarians and archivists who assisted me with my research. Because of them, I started to consider librarianship as a career path. I declared a Book Studies Concentration, which expanded my theoretical and practical knowledge about the field through coursework and professional opportunities. While I appreciate all of the types of librarianship I have interacted with during my time at Smith, becoming a Library Research Mentor gave me the clearest vision of what I would like to pursue professionally upon graduating. I love assisting patrons with their research and leaving them with skills they can apply to future library contexts. I want to keep showing people that their libraries are there to support them, which is why I hope to become an academic librarian.

Outside of the Libraries, what are your interests and hobbies?

I'm a big foodie! I also have an extensive vinyl record collection. In my free time, I like to go bird watching, journal, and play cozy video games.

What is next for you after graduating from Smith?

I intend to pursue a Master's of Library Science at Queens College.

If you could impart one piece of advice to incoming first year students, what would it be?

Don't worry if things don't fall into place right away. Sometimes you run into setbacks, but don't take those moments to heart! Be flexible. There are ample support systems in place to help you through any rough patches. You're going to do great!
