Anna Youtz
Tell us your Smith College Libraries Story.
I always love libraries and being in a space with so many books, since I would always be at my hometown's public library. When I came to Smith, I found Neilson so amazing and I wanted to continue working in a library setting. I have worked at Neilson ever since my first year, and I truly enjoyed every bit of it as a student worker! All the staff are such wonderful people, and getting to know them over these years has resonated with me the most. Being with this librarian and student community is so energizing and heartwarming. Through this work, I have gained valuable problem-solving, interpersonal, and library knowledge strengths. Now I know Neilson's ins and outs and it's practically another home. Besides chatting with student coworkers and my supervisors, my favorite part is meeting, connecting, and helping people.
Outside of the Libraries, what are your interests and hobbies?
I read, draw, bake, and listen to music in my spare time! I am a fiction/poetry writer and journalist beyond academics. I also love going on walks or basking in the sun when it is warm outside.
What is next for you after graduating from Smith?
I am not sure yet who I will be post-grad, but I hope to either do library work, journalism, or be in editor and writing positions. I am an aspiring novelist, so I will also start a lot of personal writing projects!
If you could impart one piece of advice to incoming first year students, what would it be?
It is okay to make mistakes; always ask questions and be curious about learning. Being observant, kind, and creative goes a long way!
