The Libraries have two self checkout services to make borrowing items even more convenient for students, faculty and staff.

Self Checkout Kiosks

Self checkout kiosks are available on Neilson Library’s ground and first floors. The stations include accessibility features such as adjustable font size and language support for English, Spanish and French. By using self checkout, patrons can borrow materials privately, without interacting with library staff. To use a self checkout kiosk, scan the barcode on the back of your OneCard under the red light at the front of the kiosk. Then, scan the barcode on the front of the book. A receipt will be emailed after checkout. Be on the lookout for additional kiosks being installed in more locations in Neilson.

Self Checkout App

Library users may also download the Smith Libraries Self Checkout app from the App Store or Google Play to borrow items with a mobile device. When checking out items on your mobile device, the app will use the device’s camera. Please note that the Self Checkout app works in the Neilson Library, but not yet in other Smith library locations.

As a pilot project launched in late Summer, students have been commenting on how fast and convenient this new self-checkout service is. We encourage you to download the app and try checking out items. Please feel free to reach out to our Librarians at Ask Us or at the Neilson Central Service Point with any questions or to report any technical difficulties with the new service.
