A collection of items commemorating the fiftieth year of hip-hop is on display now at Josten Performing Arts Library.
“Happy Birthday Hip-Hop” was created by Collections Services/Circulation Associate Kat Godfrey and Student Assistant Rachel Yang ’25. Godfrey says her love of music history inspired her to curate a collection showcasing a variety of elements representative of the hip-hop genre.
“News of the fiftieth anniversary of hip-hop has been popping up everywhere, so I figured this would be really fun,” Godfrey says. “In addition to music, Josten’s collection covers so many of the integral parts of hip-hop, such as graffiti art and streetwear fashion.”
“Happy Birthday Hip-Hop” includes books and media surrounding hip-hop, as well as a composition notebook for visitors to write down their favorite hip-hop artists. Items in the collection can still be checked out by library patrons.
The collection is located on the Josten Library mezzanine and is available to view during Josten’s open hours.
