Neilson Library Construction Update, March 10, 2020

New Neilson

Published March 10, 2020

Construction activity is planned over spring recess that is outside of the Neilson construction perimeter and will impact access into Wright Hall and Wright Hall parking, including the handicap parking at the building. The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, March 16 and continue through Friday, March 20.

The work involves installing storm drain lines in the parking area in front of Wright Hall and interconnecting those lines with existing piping distribution. It will involve heavy equipment in close proximity to Wright Hall. Occupants on the west side of Wright near the new amphitheater know what this means. The disruption that can be anticipated in this area is similar to the work performed two years ago when new chilled water and steam lines were installed to Wright Hall.

Accessible access into Wright Hall will be maintained at all times and required egress routes will be provided. Accessible pedestrian access will also be maintained on paths and drives around the building without major detours and handicap parking will be relocated to within 200 feet of the building entrance. Weinstein Auditorium has been reserved for the five days so as not to inconvenience those attending larger events. Normal use of other spaces in Wright Hall will not be impacted significantly. Signs will be posted to assist students, staff, faculty and visitors navigate the work areas. If all goes as planned, things will be back to normal for the start of classes on Monday, March 23.

Please refer to this map for navigation into Wright Hall. There are spaces designated as handicap on the drive in from Chapin House, but it will be tight turning vehicles around. We recommend using the handicap spaces on Neilson Drive if possible for the week.
