Neilson Library Construction Update, June 10, 2019

There will be excessive noise and nuisance vibration on the south side of Wright Hall beginning Monday, June 17 and lasting two to three days. Disruption for occupants can be expect for those in close proximity to the back doors of Wright leading to the terrace. It should not impact occupants in other buildings. The team is aware of a lecture in Weinstein Auditorium on June 19 and will avoid work during the event. If other events are planned, please let us know.

Due to the construction work at the back exit from the garden level of Wright Hall, it is required to temporarily close the pair of exit doors on the lower level leading out onto the Wright Hall back terrace. Facilities has engaged an architect to do a code review for egress requirements for Wright Hall. Given that there is the 400 seat lecture hall on the lower level it is critical that we maintain compliance with required egress requirements for the building. The architects code review is completed and it will allow us to close the lower level exit doors between CEEDS and the Jandon Center if we remove the locks on the entrance doors to the centers such that we do not create a dead end corridor and provide guaranteed access to the stairwells in the back of the respective center common areas. This condition will be in place for only a few weeks from the end of June into early July this summer. It will repeat again for a few weeks again next summer. During those periods, please secure your offices at the end of the day and do not leave any of your valuables out in the common areas. Note that there will be miscellaneous changes to the illuminated exit signs located just outside in the corridor. Campus Police will make extra checks in your areas prior to the building being locked up later in the evening. We regret any temporary inconvenience this may cause and if you do discover any unwanted use of your space after hours or experience any theft, please let us know right away.
