Five College Compass New Site Launch, January 17, 2024

On January 17, 2024, Five College Compass will launch an updated site with upgraded infrastructure. There may be a brief period of service interruption while the update is performed. If you have any questions, please contact Compass support at compass-notification@smith.edu.

Compass is a centralized repository and platform for Smith, Mount Holyoke, and Hampshire Colleges to store, manage and publish digital objects on the web. Smith College uses Compass as a delivery platform for Special Collections. This includes both digitized and born-digital objects. For researchers and campus communities it serves as a single point of access for culturally unique resources held by the partner institutions. Compass is a collaboratively developed infrastructure to support shared maintenance and stewardship of critical archival and scholarly materials.

This update moves Compass from Islandora 7 to Islandora 2. The new site includes the Mirador image viewer, which supports International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF) and gives users additional ways to interact with and use the collection images. All current collections and objects will retain their permalinks from the earlier version of the site.
