Did you know many iconic children’s book authors and illustrators are Smithies? Some authors and works are easily recognizable, such as Ann M. Martin’s best-selling Baby-Sitters Club book series or Madeleine L’Engle’s novel A Wrinkle in Time, while others may have flown under the radar. Moby Yang ’28 has curated a collection that captures the broad scope of these works in Children's Book Authors and Illustrators: Smithie Edition!
The exhibit includes writings, photographs, newspaper clippings, and more from five Smith College alums who have made their own unique and noteworthy contributions to American children's literature. For over the past century, through word and illustration, each of these creatives helped shape a love of books amongst young readers of both age and soul. Yang’s hope for the exhibit is to reawaken the inner child of those who view these new and familiar selections.
You can explore more of these Smithies' works at the College Archives and Sophia Smith Collection of women's history in Special Collections on the third floor of Neilson Library.
