Join us for an evening celebrating the 100th anniversary of Hemingway's powerful story of its time’s violence and moral uncertainty, while touching on the ephemera and power of the daily news, poetry, and scripture.
The symposium and lecture are open to all. Attend one or both, as well as the reception!

Moderated by Michael Thurston, Helen Means Professor of English, Smith College.
Featuring:
- Suzanne del Gizzo, Editor of The Hemingway Review and Dean of Liberal Arts, Montgomery County Community College

- Richard Millington, Helen and Laura Shedd Professor Emeritus of English, Smith College
Enid Mark Lecture
Michael Thurston will look through the lenses of book history and book studies to explore In Our Time amid the complex networks of modernist print culture.
The annual Enid Mark Lecture on Contemporary Book Arts & Poetry is in honor of the memory of artist, writer, and fine book publisher Enid Mark, class of 1954. Enid was passionate about words and imagery. From the 1980s until shortly before her death in 2008, she carefully considered all components of her books: text (her own words or those written by others, many of them modern women poets); imagery (her own artwork); type design and layout; binding. She studied English literature and studio art, and her bookwork is featured in Special Collections.
