Libraries Staff Teaching During January Interterm

Shannon teaches students

Shannon Supple teaches students about Rare Books.

Every year our talented Libraries’ staff teach Smith College courses during Interterm (J-term). For the upcoming 2022 interterm, we have two library staff members teaching courses.

Our Curator of Rare Books, Shannon Supple will be teaching BKX 140: Perspectives on Book Studies. Shannon’s Gateway course focuses on the Book Studies Concentration and is open to all! Students will explore many of the material texts of Special Collections.

Our Senior Educational Media Producer, Dan Bennett, is teaching IDP107 - Digital Media Literacy. The course focuses on aiding students who are "given a voice" by leveraging digital media tools to greatly increase their ability to interpret, critically challenge, communicate and retain key concepts within their disciplines.

Our Spatial Data Specialist, Tracy Tien, and the Director of the Spatial Analysis Lab, Job Caris, are teaching IDP153 - Intro to GIS. The course introduces students to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with spatial analysis techniques and spatial data visualization (map making).
