Computers in the Libraries are available for academic work by Smith and Five College students, faculty, staff, alumnae and visiting researchers as detailed in the Smith College Acceptable Use of Computer and Electronic Resources Policy.
Mac and Windows workstations are available in Young Library, Hillyer Art Library, and Josten Library. Mac and Windows laptops are available for loan by Smith, Five College, and alumnae patrons in Young Library.
Library computers provide access to online content including journals and databases licensed by Smith and an extensive suite of campus software and tools.
Computers designated for Smith College users require a current Smith network login. Five College students who are registered for Smith classes should contact Smith College ITS to set up a temporary Smith network login which will allow them access to Smith-only computers.
Five College users (Amherst, Hampshire, Mount Holyoke, and UMass Amherst), Smith College alumnae, and unaffiliated researchers may use workstations designated for visitors. Library Service desk staff will log them into the Smith network.
The Smith College Libraries lend an assortment of media equipment including laptops to current Smith College students, faculty and staff with a valid OneCard. Before some equipment can be borrowed, an annual loan agreement form may need to be completed. Borrowers assume all responsibility of equipment during their loan periods, including replacement or repair costs in the event of theft or damage. See Equipment Loans for more information.
