The Smith College Libraries are preparing to do a large re-shelving project at the Annex facility in Hatfield, MA. Re-shelving the Smith collection will enable the Libraries to use the Annex space allotted to Smith for storing books and journals in the most effective way.
This final step in the Neilson project will require the Annex collection to be unavailable from March 15 to September 9, 2023. So that we can fulfill requests, please place requests through the Discover Advanced catalog for the materials you will need from the Annex for courses or research before March 15. This project does not affect library materials in the libraries on campus. All material on campus in Neilson, Hillyer and Josten Libraries will continue to be available. The timeline for the project is as follows:
March 15 through September 9:
September 9: Re-shelving project is complete. All material at the Annex can be requested again.
During this period, alternate copies of materials will be available from other libraries. There are two options for obtaining copies of materials when the Annex collection is not available:
Andrew Kretschmar, Resource Sharing Librarian, and his staff are eager to assist with locating materials for you and answering any questions you may have. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to reach Andrew and the Interlibrary Loan staff.
We recognize that this necessary Annex work is another inconvenience to faculty, students and staff and we are working to make this process move as quickly as possible over the late spring and summer. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this final chapter of the Neilson project.
