Kate is a member of the Learning, Research & Technology group, and a strong advocate for media that informs and inspires, both through production and education. During her tenure, she has produced educational content for high profile multimedia projects, including the edX Psychology of Political Activism course, Executive Education’s Taking Control of Your Online Reputation video series, and The Life and Legacy of Otelia Cromwell documentary. Kate's primary focus is to facilitate knowledge building and creativity through the leverage of digital media technology. Working closely with faculty and colleagues, she designs unique learning opportunities for undergraduates to develop digital media fluency and aptitude, and provides information, consultation, and design support for digital media scholarship.
Prior to Smith, Kate served as Media Consultant at The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor where she built and managed a professional video and audio recording studio.
As an advocate of media coverage for women in sport, Kate has produced programming for the NCAA, the USOC, and ESPN, including the first national women’s basketball podcast show. She is author of Just for the Love of It, winner of the Women’s Sports Foundation Journalism Award, and Life in a Ziplock Bag, a personal reflection of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail.
