Questions
About This Service?
WHO
CAN ACCESS THE DATABASES FROM OFF-CAMPUS?
Current
Smith students, faculty, and staff can access databases from off-campus
with a GroupWise username and password. If you don't remember your GroupWise
username/password or have questions about getting one, contact the ITS
User Support Center at (413) 585-4487.
WHICH DATABASES ARE AVAILABLE FROM OFF-CAMPUS?
Most
of the databases on the Research Databases
A-Z page are available; restricted databases are so noted.
HOW
DO I ACCESS THE DATABASES FROM OFF-CAMPUS?
Just
go to the Research Databases A-Z page
and click on a database. Off campus users will be asked for their GroupWise
username and password. Once you enter your username and password, you
will be able to access any available database until you close your web
browser (or if it isn't active it will time out).
WHAT
DO
(before) OR
Smith Libraries Only
(after)
THE DATABASE NAME MEAN?
They
indicate that those databases are only available on the Smith campus
or in the Smith Libraries.
WHY
DON'T THEY WORK OUTSIDE OF THE LIBRARIES OR FROM OFF-CAMPUS?
Two
reasons: Some databases have licensing restrictions that permit in-library
use only. Others are CD-ROM databases mounted on servers in the library
which require specific installation setups on your PC (almost all of
them are DOS/Windows-based CD-ROMs and unfortunately will not work on
a Mac.) We hope to be able to make some of these available in other
locations on campus in the future.
